Week 12: Towards more progress

After a disappointing feedback last week (ouch!) both artists and programmers worked a lot on making as much progress as possible. All animations are now implemented for the boss, the players and the minions! Thought one or two of them might need a bit of polishing. But for now it works and the game looks much cooler. The player's weapon has been implemented so now we just need the one for the minions and (maybe) the boss.

We also worked on (finally) implementing the HUD, at least for the player's and the boss health bar. Those are now in the game and fully functional, as shown in the gif below. (Also, admire our boss animation ♥ and player's idle animation if you look really close.)

              

Along with that, the programmers also worked on the start menu, making sure it was working properly, and the start and end screen. All of these are working, artists just need to work on them to make sure it's looking good.

We also updated the stats a bit, as our game was -until now- way too easy. The boss has now more health and is actually pretty hard to kill! (maybe a bit too hard, these still need a bit of tweaking and balancing)

Artists and programmers also worked on the boss disappearing when the night falls and reappearing when the sun is up. The particle that goes with it still need a bit of polishing. Here are some low quality gif (yum!) to show you the result as for now:

   

On the side, artists also worked on some more vfx and small assets to implement, such as torches with flames that would light up during the night, the player spawn particles and some fireflies particles that we might add to the night scene. Hopefully we'll be able to implement all these for the next week, as these should already improve the night/day visuals.


Finally there was a lot of tweaking and fixing bug to make the game work better. The camera had to be fixed as it was zooming way too much on the player when there was only one left. The day and night cycle also needed a lot of fixing as it was not fading in and out correctly,  and as it was inverted at some time (causing the night enemies, the minions, to spawn really randomly and also during the day). Talking about those minions, they were still very buggy and the fire minions had to be fixed as they were never dying and just staying weirdly on top of the player. Lastly, we had to solve an issue where the boss and the player's health could go below zero. Now all of these are fixed and our game runs smoother ♥
